Sales and the 'Talent Magnet'

A lot is written about being a ‘Talent Magnet’, either as a company, or as President. It’s all good practice – listen, mentor, reward, provide clear goals and career maps. Good practice for the employer, but what about the employee?

Recognised as the inventor of miniature spectroscopy, Ocean Optics is always looking to expand the frontiers of optical sensing and make it the foundation on which innovative, life-changing ideas are built. Jaz is a new revolutionary, unique and stand alone optical sensing unit consisting of configurable, stackable modules, including a microprocessor. Valuable real-time data can be collected in a variety of settings, from inline process control monitoring to onsite quality control measurements.

Recognised as the inventor of miniature spectroscopy, Ocean Optics is expanding the frontiers of optical sensing and makes it the foundation on which innovative, life-changing ideas are built. By working intensively with her customers, Ocean Optics develops new applications in optical sensing every day, increasing quality, speed and cost saving to new limits. Ocean Optics’ revolutionary Jaz, combines many new features enabling the introduction of optical sensing in many new areas of inline process control and onsite quality control.

Jaz is a new unique and stand alone optical sensing unit consisting of configurable, stackable modules, including a powerful microprocessor. Depending on the requirements, unique suits of functionalities can be combined and implemented into various processes used in the pharmaceutical industry.

At its heart, Jaz has a miniature CCD-array spectrometer and together with various build-in light source options Jaz is configurable to analyse a large variety of optical characteristics of solids, liquids and powders. Jaz can store data stand alone or communicate directly with a host computer through USB or Ethernet. For onsite measurements Jaz can be configured to include a battery module, an OLED display and user interface buttons.

“The Jaz system is very versatile, as our early adopter customers have demonstrated,” says Mike Kayat, Ocean Optics Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “We have customers now involved in field applications such as environmental engineering, as well as in drug discovery and materials analysis. That’s the power of Jaz – that it is easily adaptable for field, lab or process environments.”

The Jaz platform also expands to include light sources (UV-VIS, VIS-NIR or LED) and additional spectrometer channels. Jaz can be connected to field-ready fibre optic accessories such as cosine corrected irradiance probes, optical fibres and probes for immersing in fluids or sampling solid surfaces, and devices for adjusting the field of view of the sampling optic.

Quality is Key

As manufacturer of optical components and systems, we value quality in our products, our processes and our people. Ocean Optics is the supplier in the business that issues a full three-year warranty on all of her spectrometers. We utilize the world-class Toyota© manufacturing protocol in our assembly and manufacturing processes, together with our global ERP system. This allows us increased flexibility in meeting product volume and scheduling requirements. You can be assured that your schedule is always our aim.

Ocean Optics is part of the Halma Group of safety and detection companies, a United Kingdom-based multinational corporation. With the resources of a large parent company and the flexibility of a small company environment, Ocean Optics is able to provide innovative, high standard and flexible solutions. As leading supplier for optical sensing systems and components, Ocean Optics has enabled diverse applications in pharmaceutical and medical research, environmental monitoring, science education and quality control.

Popular Optical Sensing Products in Pharma

Our extensive line of products includes spectrometers, light sources, chemical sensors, optical fibres, thin films and turnkey systems. Besides the new revolutionary Jaz, we have also developed Maya, the UV sensitive spectrometer with an excellent UV response, a wide dynamic range and up to 90% quantum efficiency, making them ideal for measurements in the UV range down to 155 nm.

Another popular product are our Raman systems. Low resolution Raman spectroscopy (LRRS) has proved to be a very useful technique for non-destructive chemical analysis and has gained increased attention and acceptance in the analytical laboratory as an affordable, robust and convenient alternative to cumbersome wet chemical analysis or expensive FT-Raman and FT-IR spectrometers. Please visit our website for a nice online article about measuring pharmaceutical ingredients using Raman spectroscopy.

All together Ocean Optics has sold more than 110,000 spectrometers worldwide since 1989 and has proven to be a reliable, flexible and trustworthy company.
