Often times it’s been said to leave your emotions at the door when you go to work. I’m sure we can all relate to this over our many years of working, whether it is for a company, a charity, or for ourselves. I would like to convey the counter to this old saying by saying its okay to be emotional about work. We have many challenges in our work that provide us pleasant or not so pleasant experiences. We often times shrug off the emotion as it is not my job to get involved. We have lost our emotional intelligence and purpose for being emotional in the work place. Driving the emotional passion into our work is about driving purpose behind why we are doing what we do. This kind of emotional change is necessary for growth. We need to be emotional about what’s happening and be a part of driving the emotion back into our working lives. In his book Emotional Intelligence Robert Cooper says that “emotional Intelligence is the primary source of human energy, authenticity, aspiration, and drive.”
When we do any kind of change whether it be changing the way we problem solve, improving the culture of a company, launch products, improve customer satisfaction, secure monies, we need to get the emotion running thru the organization and put the fire in our hearts, to excite once again the masses. Cooper goes on to say that “by developing the EQ Emotional Quotient, we learn to readily acknowledge and value core feelings-in ourselves and others.” Once emotional change is achieved organizational changes will take place and the company can begin the process of moving forward. So maybe it is time for companies to consider this kind of change which might start a revolution of breakthrough ideas and possibilities.
